Chiara Bartolozzi
Chiara Bartolozzi is Researcher at the Italian Institute of Technology. She earned a degree in Engineering at University of Genova (Italy) and a Ph.D. in Neuroinformatics at ETH Zurich, developing analog subthreshold circuits for emulating biophysical neuronal properties onto silicon and modelling selective attention on hierarchical multi-chip systems.
She is currently leading the Event-Driven Perception for Robotics group, with the aim of applying the "neuromorphic" engineering approach to the design of robotic platforms as enabling technology towards the design of autonomous machines. This goal is pursued by inducing a paradigm shift in robotics, based on the emerging concept of Event-Driven (ED) sensing and processing. Similarly, to their biological counterpart, and differently from traditional robotic sensors, ED sensory systems sample their input signal at fixed (and relative) amplitude changes, intrinsically adapting to the dynamics of the sensory signal: temporal resolution is extremely high for fast transitory signals and decreases for slower inputs. This approach naturally leads to better robots that acquire, transmit and process information only when needed, optimizing the use of resources, leading to real-time, low-cost, operation.
Chiara has participated to a number of EU funded projects, she is currently coordinating the European Training Network "NeuTouch", where 15 PhD students are studying how touch perception works in humans and animals, in order to develop artificial touch perception systems for robots and hand prosthesis. As leader of the educational activities of the coordination and support action NEUROTECH, she is co-organizing the Neuromorphic Colloquium, a series of online events to build up educational material for the next generation of neuromorphic researchers.
She is an IEEE member, actively supporting the CAS and RAS societies. In 2020, she has co-chaired "AICAS2020", on Circuits and systems for efficient embedded AI.
Elena Blokhina
Elena Blokhina received the Habilitation HDR (equiv. D.Sc.) degree in electronic engineering from UPMC Sorbonne Universities, in 2017, the Ph.D. degree in physical and mathematical sciences and the M.Sc degree in physics from Saratov State University, in 2006 and 2002 respectively. Since 2007, she has been with the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of University College Dublin, Ireland, and is currently an Associate Professor.
Prof Blokhina is a Senior member of IEEE and the Past Chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Nonlinear Circuits and Systems. She had been elected to serve as a member of the Boards of Governors of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CAS) for the term 2013-2015 and has been re-elected for the term 2015-2017. From 2014 to 2017, she chaired the IEEE CAS Young Professionals and Women in Circuits and Systems committee. She has served as a member of organizing committees, review and programme committee, session chair and track chair at many international conferences on circuits and systems and nonlinear dynamics including as IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS), IEEE Latin American Symposium on Circuits and Systems (LASCAS), IEEE Asia-Pacific Conference on Circuits and Systems (APCCAS), International Symposium on Nonlinear Theory and Its Applications (NOLTA), IEEE international Conference on Electronics, Circuits and Systems (ICECS) and others.
Prof Blokhina has served as the Programme Chair of the first edition of IEEE Next Generation of Circuits and Systems Conference (NGCAS) 2017 and of IEEE ICECS 2018 and is the General Co-Chair of ICECS 2020. In 2016-2017 Prof Blokhina was an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I, and in 2018-2021 she was the Deputy Editor in Chief of that Journal. She served as a Visiting Professor in UPMC Sorbonne Universities in 2014, 2017 and 2021. Her research interests include quantum computing, semiconductor devices, quantum dots, microelectronic systems and multi-physics systems.
